As the asteroid is nearing the final stages of its journey toward destroying Earth they show scenes from all cities across the globe - but every city is in daylight....don't think so!
You're right, this is PROBABLY a slipup; but I think there's a very slight chance that the filmmakers PURPOSELY & knowingly left all the daytime shots in even knowing that was illogical. Read "Out of synch" for my take on it.
