Near the beginning of the movie..Harvey Keitel blast the diving alarm 3 times...and then says "Dive Dive"....As a former submariner, it is known that 3 blasts is only used for an emergency blow to surface..what Harvey should have done, is 2 blasts for a dive....
What if it was three blasts during WWII? They did have a former submariner on hand as technical advisor through out filming. He had served during WWII and afterwards. So if he had no problem with it, maybe he didn't notice, it was unimportant, or was three blasts to dive and four blasts for emergency surface during WWII and was later shortened to save time.
