Digimon - Okay, Digidestined Without the Crests

In episode of "Now Apocalymon" right after Apocalymon destroyed all the crests, the digidestineds seemed hopeless, "He broke them all" "They won't be able to digivolve without them" "How can we fight Apocalymon without digivolving" all the complains started, and it all seemed no hope, I'm not sure that if any of you had noticed this as well, they could always digivolve into champions without the crest!!! I mean before Tai got his crest?? How did the digidestined defeat Devimon and his henchmen without digivolving??? and by the way, when Tai said "everyone get your crest ready" he actually reached toward his digivice on his belt instead of reach his crest in front of his chest...

Kuwagamon would normally KILL an In-training Digimon, but they all worked together and beat it.
