Aliens - Shrinking Queen?
Toward the end of the movie when Ripley and Newt discover the Queen, the Queen appears to be HUGE. Like 4 times the height of a human. When I first saw this scene, I was awe-struck by the size of her.
Then the Queen breaks away from the "reproductive tube" and starts her chase on Ripley and Newt.
Well in the scene where Ripley and Newt are in the elevator and the Queen confronts them, she doesn't seem so huge anymore. More like the size of the drones. Small enough, in fact, to be able to fit in the elevator.
Then when the Queen re-appears in the main ship, she is once again HUGE.

Well, the aliens are a strange bunch. That's why the company wants to study them, isn't it? Don't forget the queen was levitated on slimy spikes and carrying a big egg-sack. Maybe that's why she appears so huge, nut she can't be bigger than two humans, i think. She also looks very agile, so she wouldn't have any problems fitting in a cramped elavator i guess. Mr glass

Remember, the queen has very long legs and a large body. If she crouches over a lot and bend her legs, she can fit in the elevator. In the power-loader fight scene, she is crouched over, and is not much bigger than the power-loader. Its all dependent on how she is positioned. Its also a very big service elevator, probably designed to fit power-loaders and other big machines.

And just for everybody's information, the queen was just a huge costume with "two" people inside it. I hope that clears that up.

This is NOT a slip-up! Look closely, all the Queen's legs have multiple joints, and could easily be positioned to move in ways that make her appear larger or smaller than she actually is, based solely on height. Also, in order for her to lay eggs, she would have to stand more upright (thus appearing taller) in order for her torso to not interfere with the egg sac and tube.

Actually, if you watch the new Aliens DVD with the commentary, I believe it is Stan Winston that talks about the dilemma of the Queen getting into the elevator, half of her was actually sticking out the back end, and they had a black curtain behind her so you couldn't tell. So, that is a slip up, the Queen isn't THAT flexible.
