In the Movie when the Taylor is first called by the unnamed man you can see he dials 555-0153 right after that you see Taylors number on the back of the business card. The number is 555-0178...oops
WARNING*****
SPOILER INSIDE COMMENT******
I don't know that this is so much of a 'slip-up'... as we see later in the film, the two characters are the same person, therefore any phone call was conducted with himself, making it totally irrelevant what number was dialed. Maybe it was a slip-up on the filmmaker's part, but being how this movie was so well written, I tend to think that it was another in a long line of subliminal clues to let you in on the fact that Brad Pitt and Edward Norton's characters were the same person.
There is no Slipup, you are wrong.
1. The narrator looks at Tyler´s business card before he dials 555 - 0153
2. On the front of the card you can see the complete phone-no. of Tyler:
(288) 555 0153 (you can see this with a dvd player with zoom)
So he dials the right number!!
3. The no. 0178 does not even appear in that sequence. I´m not sure the is a
number on the back of the business card. I could not see anything at all.
If you look closely at the phone where the number of the phone is for returning call purposes, there is a note saying this phone does not receive incoming calls.
(~*spoiler*~ if you have not seen the movie this may ruin it for you... if you don't want the movie to be spoiled, scroll away from the paragraph... if not, continue reading) first of all, scientist of sound, I read your comment and wouldn't you think since Edward Norton and Brad Pitt are the same person, he wouldn't even be talking to a real person... the phone never rang and "Tyler" never even called. think about it.
okay, if you have the DVD version ((spoiler)) if you go to the special features and play the storyboard section of that scene you see the ORIGINAL drawings! the card says something like 555-5555, and in the drawing of him dialing, you see the exaggerated arrows of him dialing numbers other than 5. it is not a slip up, but a brilliant touch that lets us know how deep his problem lies. i don't know why they change the numbers on the card in the movie, probably for realism *shrugs*
