This otherwise excellent film suffers from an extraordinary number of slipups. In the scene where Lieutenant Chard (Stanley Baker)regains his nerve and loads his pistol, it is quite obviously a Mark VI Webley .455, first issued 1915. Advanced equipment for 1879!

Similarly, many of the troops in the background can be seen industriously working the bolts of their lever action Martini-Henry rifles.
