In the end of the movie, while Forrest was waiting with Little Forrest for the school bus, he takes a story book out of his case. He asks his son if he knows the story, and he says, "Grandma used to read it to me...." Unfortunately - Little Forrest NEVER MET HIS GRANDMOTHER!
He definitely says "Grandma used to read it to me", and he was definitely talking about Forrest's mother. All of you are over analyzing this. Yair, you are the man, this is a great slip up.
He couldn't have meant Jenny's mother, Jenny didn't have a mother. Remember it was her and her sisters living with her dad. I was also thinking that young Forrest said "Grandma used to read it to YOU" not "to ME"
yair and redsox know what theyre talking about..you know how older people talk to little kids when they are reffering to,hmmm lets say the kids uncle, hell tell the kid "uncle is gonna do this" so forrest was reffering to little forrests grandma cause little forrest would have gotten confused if he said "mom used to read it to me"..little guy would have thought he was talking about jenny..
You are all wrong. Forrest is talking about his mother. Although little Forrest never meet his grandma Gump. When Forrest says "your grandmother used to read this to me" he is referring to his mom. His mom would have been his paternal grandmother if she had lived to see him.
Little Forrest CLEARLY says Grandma used to read it to YOU. YOU so anyone that says that little forrest says grandma used to read it to ME or full of it or deaf. You can even turn the closed caption on on your TV it'll show you there too.
Good call, Crawl! I'm with you on this one. How anyone could think that little Forrest says "Grandma used to read it to ME" is beyond me. The writer's aren't that stupid!
Well I've seen captioning that is off.... I know this has little to do with the earlier comment, but when I was watching DOOM GENERATION with the caption on in the beginning, you hear Nine Inch Nails' "Heresy" the song says "Your god is dead...and no one cares...and if there is a hell I'll see you there"...well I read the captions, and they read somthing like "This town is hell.." (something like that).. just a comment on captions.
When he says Grandma read it to me he is meaning his mother, the little kids grandmother, instead of saying My mom, your grandma read it to me, he says Grandma.
My Grandma calls my Grandad (her husband obviously) Grandad instead of 'my Husband' Or by his first name. Like 'Grandad went to the doctor today' especially when she is only talking to me. That should De-fog this non-slip-up.
Okay, well it seems a lot of you don't even remember the part... The ones who are saying, "Maybe it was Jenny'sgrandmother, etc"~ Here is the dialog of this part:
Forrest: (Looking at Curious George book) Hey I know this book.
Little Forrest: I'm taking it to Show-And-Tell because Grandma used to read it to you...
THIS IS EXACTLY WHAT WAS SAID... This book BELONGED to Big Forrest~ Little Forrest was taking it to school... Geez~!

MafiaPrincess, It's "Hey, I know this." NOT "Hey, I know this book." Not that it's a big deal, it just seems like you're desperate to be EXACTLY right. So I thought I'd just fill you in on that ;) At least I think thats what he said, but hey- don't go by someone who just happens to be watching the movie at this very moment.
i cant believe there is so much confusion on this quote. what little forrest simply meant by "grandma" is he was referring to Big forrest's mom. when i talk to my 2 year old nephew about MY parents, i refer to them as grandma and grandpa. "go show grandma your new shoes!" something like that.
Little Forrest can't be talking about his maternal grandmother because Forrest said earlier in the movie that Jenny's mother died. He could have been referring to his great-grandmother (the grandmother that Jenny moved in with as a child).
