When Dorothy falls out of the truck, they get back in to run from the storm. They drive some distance and get right out to retreive the balls from the road. How far did those babies roll?
Remember, they are in the midst of a major storm that has produced a tornado...that means there is lots of wind. Perhaps the wind blew the balls?
