Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat - Can't Tell My Corn from My Cows
In the middle of Pharaoh's song about his dreams, he asks Joseph (Donny Osmond) to tell him what it means. Joseph says, "Well, I understand the bit about the corn...but I'm not so sure about the cows." After a little more speaking, Pharaoh proceeds to repeat his dream about the corn. Didn't Joseph already understand that part?
Kind of surprising that the mistake made it past the editing room!
These lines at the end of the song were added for time because it was not too long. The Broadway version does not have this line and I think it could be considered a mistake but it's extremely minor.
The song that you are talking about is called "Song of the king reprise." The whole song is repeated again because it is a dance scene. The first time it is told just through song...2nd through song and dance in the staged version.
Ce is exactly right. The line was followed by "hey, hey, hey Joseph" in other versions. Also, in the London version at least, the line was "Well, I understand the bit about the corn, Pharaoh, but just give me a second about the cows." He didn't ask him to repeat himself, just give him more time. Could be Donny Osmond just said the line wrong, but I doubt they figured it was worth doing over.
In The Actual SHOW the song is repeated after Joseph says "I get the bit about the corn but not to sure about the cows..." Pharoah says I will tell you one more time. And he does. It is then sang again in the show, not on the C.D. or the movie. At the end of the first time he sings the song of the king and the reprise He says Hey Hey Hey Joseph.
I was in the musical version, which is exactly the same as the movie. That is the way the composers Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Webber orriginally wrote the song. They wouldnt change the orriginal lyrics so that the movie would be more accurate.
