In the Hill House, Mrs. Dudley tells Eleanor and Theo that she will leave the house until dark, and she will lock up the gates leaving them locked up in the house, but when Mary hurts her face, she's taken to the hospital, at night, and Neesons character open the gates.
PAY ATTENTION!!! Neeson's character said he had keys to the gate!!!

Maybe I missed something... if he had the keys, then why did they try to ram the car through the gate later in the movie?

When did Liam say he had keys to the gate? I don't remember that. Also, when the lady cut her face and left for the hospital, maybe the gates hadn't been locked by the housekeeper when she left therefore, once Liam locked them, that was it!!

At the beginning of the movie he said he had a cell phone in case of an emergency, not keys.

Yes, at the beginning Liam was given a set of the keys but when the girl got hurt and the guy took her to the hospital, Liam gave *them* the keys so that they could return...which I might add they *never* did. What horrible people.

Okay, yes, Liam does say that he has a cell phone, and says nothing about keys, that could be because he doesn't want them to think that they can leave easily if there is trouble-it adds more to the fear study. But when Mary and Todd are in the car and they are leaving, Liam says "Take my key to the gate and come back as soon as possible" or something like that, and then they leave, he locks the gate and they never come back.

Wasn't the housekeeper still there when the lady cut her eye? If she was still there the gates wouldn't be locked.
