In the episode where Homer decides to stop going to church and then the house burns down, watch the scene where God is talking to Homer at the end. Observe God's hands: Five fingers to four fingers to five, etc.
Every other person/spiritual entity who has appeared on the show has four fingers. Maybe this was just a philosophical question- how many finger does God have? Should we call God "he"? What is the sound of one hand clapping? What happens when you die? When a tree falls and there is nobody to hear it, what sound does it make?
"Thud."
You see, when a tree falls and there is nobody to hear it, it still falls, which is still movement. particles still vibrate, wood still splinters, and all this still causes sound waves, a sound is emitted. A better question could be, if a tree falls on a mime, do you hear it?
Actually, the definition of sound is something heard. If nobody is around to hear then there is no sound.
The Bible was intended to be full of contradictions and so why would'nt God’s hand also leave you wondering. God is leaving this choice up to you. Four or five?

well, if you watch the Simpsons you should know, every character on the Simpsons has 4 fingers per hand, Lisa even says something like "look at this, according to Time magazine, in 50,000 years man will have 5 fingers"
3 fingers has always been more-or-less standard in animation. This tradition is parodied in "Cape Feare": Silent Bob's forced to misspell the traditional "LOVE / HATE" hand tattoos as "LUV / HAT" due to his finger shortage.
Actually, if you watch The Simpsons closely enough, you would realized the comment about no character having five fingers is incorrect. Before Radioactive Man gained his super powers he had four fingers. However, Radioactive Man has five fingers after his transformation.
Actually...I heard somewhere that giving five fingers to any character in any cartoon shows respect...maybe the illustrators were just showing respect to God...He should be respected too.
