Star Trek: Generations - Shield Unmodulation?
Ok, so after the D'uras sisters release Geordi back to the Enterprise, Dr. Crusher fixes his visor and plants it back on his head. And thus, two mistakes are born. First, as Geordi has indicated on various accounts, he is not able to see like normal humans (he sees in a spectrum, including heat). However, the D'uras sisters have no problem viewing the content that his visors transmit back. And then, when he enters engineering and looks at the shield frequency, it is at a stable number. Every good Trek fan knows that shield frequency is constantly and randomly modulated because of the encounter with the Borg!

The Duras sisters put a camera in his visor, so that doesn't necessarily mean they're seeing what he sees. Remember, the picture he sees is created in his brain, not in front of his eyes. Also, I only think they modulate their shield frequency when the Borg come. Why bother when there's no Borg?

First of all, the sister's did not put a camera in his VISOR. Soran was scanning the VISOR for its frequency that it transmits on, because the VISOR does transmit. As for the way they view the Enterprise via a comm link to Gordi's visor, I don't know about that one.

The crazy thing is is that such an important piece of information - the shield frequency is displayed on monitors for all to see. It's like writing your pin number on the back of your bank card...

I am a trekie, and i know (from watching voyager) that ships only randomize shield harmonics when they are fighting the Borg. When in normal combat the harmonics are always constant. Other wise too much power would be used.

Besides that, Geordie is the Chief Engineer, why shouldn't he be able to see the shield frequency if he wants to?

I agree it's a bit stupid of them to display the ship sheild modulation like that (just in case someone who shouldn't know it strolled in), but Main Engineering is a restricted-access area; I don't think it's on the regular tour.
