Three Musketeers, The - Some Non-Existent Champagne, Anyone?
In the part with the coach chase and D'Artagnan is driving, Porthos hands Athos a bottle of champagne. Problem is, Champagne didn't exist in the mid 17th century!
From what I know, there wasn't a legal drinking age, but that doesn't mean the Musketeers themselves might not have had a group or individual standard. I doubt it though. Highly diluted alcoholic beverages don't go rancid like water does, and were what most people (kids included) drank at the time.
While the sparkling wine we know modernly as "Champagne" did not exist in the 17th century, wines from the Champagne region were well known as far back as the 5th century. During that time frame it was not uncommon to refer to a wine by the region it came from.
