In the original broadcast it was "You've Lost That Lovin' Feeling". I suspect that they lost the rights to that song and are no longer allowed to show it in repeats.

If Sam finds out that Rebecca's favorite song is "Unchained Melody", then why does he say that it's "You've Lost That Lovin' Feeling"? I've seen that episode several times, and Sam says it's "You've Lost That Lovin' Feeling". He never mentions "Unchained Melody" on that episode.

I just saw this episode tonight, and when Sam hung up the phone with Rebecca's mother, he definitly said the song was "You've lost that loving feeling", but he played "unchained melody". It was driving me nuts! I came straight to 'slip ups', but it was already here!

The reason I remember that it was "You've Lost That Lovin' Feeling" is because Robin Colcord had Bill Medley appear at the bar the following season (Season 8) to sing to Rebecca that exact song. It was the same episode where Rebecca was planning to sleep with Robin for the first time. However, the next season (Season 9) Robin had Bobby Hatfield (in Rebecca's words "the other Righteous Brother!") to sing "Unchained Melody" at his wedding to Rebecca. This could be the reason for some of the confusion.

i saw this cheers rerun play tonight on the hallmark channel. i also have seen the original broadcast of this episode. the song IS "You've Lost That Lovin Feeling". That's what Sam says after he hangs up the phone, and that is what he plays in the office. However, tonight, on the rerun, the song is Unchained Melody. As another person said up top, I believe that's correct - they probably just lost the rights. This would mean that they then had to dub it...which was probably a pain, because they then had to separate the audiences laughter as well as little sounds like Rebecca typing on the keyboard, when Sam gives up his attempt, and then Norm's lines when he comes in and Rebecca kisses him. Very interesting.

It’s not false, there is definitely a slip-up. When on the phone to Rebecca’s mother, Sam is definitely told that her favourite song is ‘You’ve Lost That Lovin’ Feeling’. There is a joke right afterwards where Woody thinks Sam is saying that to him (Woody says he’s just a bit tired). However, in the office it is ‘Unchained Melody’ that is played. On first watch I thought that was going to be the gag - Sam got the wrong song, hence Rebecca’s lack of response, but it didn’t play out that way to my confusion. As others have said, a later edit that now doesn’t work at all because of the earlier joke.

No this is false. Sam finds out Rebecca's favorite song is "Unchained Melody" by the Righteous Brothers, and that's what they play!
