Twice throughout the film, female patients at the psychiatric ward are administered Electroshock Therapy treatment (known today as Electroconvulsive Therapy or ECT). The second patient does not end up going through with it, but starting 1h18m into the film, the first patient does.
This film takes place in 1928 (and is based on true events), but the concept of Electroshock Therapy was not introduced to Western medicine until 1938. Oops!
