The Sharpshooter regiments were elite riflemen made up of expert sharpshooters from across the union. They did wear the green uniforms that they showed but the button's were black so they wouldn't reflect light. The first and second regiments of the US Sharpshooters were the only volunteer regiments to have the designation of US.
