In the scene following the storm-chasers leaving Jo's Aunt Meg's home to chase a tornado, they travel in pursuit on a certain highway. Almost simultaneously when being informed that the tornado is half a mile wide over the CB radio, you can see very briefly on the right side of the highway two signs together that show the highway numbers. They clearly show that this is a Texas highway. The setting of this movie is suppose to be in the state of Oklahoma going down tornado alley.
