After Jim Bob says that Reckless is chasing a skunk again, John Boy says, "If that fool dog wants to tangle with a skunk again, let him." In most episodes, Reckless is a boy. But, in the episode where Mary Ellen delivers John Curtis, the Waltons find out that Reckless is pregnant, and they refer to Reckless as, "she". So, is Reckless a he or a she?
