In the scene at the beginning where young Brian gets to go out on the fire call and leaves young Steven behind. We see that the father and Brian both get into Truck 46. When in fact later on when Brian has the helmet of his dad after the explosion it is an Engine 17 shield on it.

So if the father was part of Engine 17 what is he doing riding in Truck 46?
