At 20 seconds in, he's standing there reading the front page. Before the viewer sees the article he's looking at (which reads "Elevator Disaster"), it's clear that the sports section headline reads "Tragedy at Crane: Williams Dead at 17." This headline was from "Hoops," which was an episode from season one, episode six. Gary already prevented that tragedy, and there would be no way that it could be happening again.
