In the episode titled "The Guardians" on Disk 4 Side B of this set (although it should be in any version of this episode), Buck is re-experiencing the mission that freezes him to the Future when this error occurs. Around 15:28 the malfunction occurs and he tells ground control that "It looks like it's from number 3 engine". If you pay attention to any shot of Buck's ship Ranger 3, especially the back view shots in the opening credits, you'll see there are only 2 engines on it!
