In Season 1, Episode 15, near the end of the episode, the "Marines" are being escorted out of town and are met by Johnston and other Jericho residents. Johnston then pushes away the gun the Gunnery Sergeant is carrying in order to strip him of his rank insignia. A distinct velcro ripping sound can be heard.

The Gunnery Sergeant's insignia, however, is a metal pin used only on hats/covers and collars of the uniforms, and would never be attached via velcro to the MOLLE-style vest the soldiers are wearing.
