This slip-up is bad enough without the title drawing attention to it. At the end of the movie, Dale McKussic (Mel Gibson) wages a night-time battle with drug kingpin Escalante (Raul Julia) on two motorboats that explode into fireballs. Dale is presumed dead until, impossibly, he walks out of the surf onto a Southern California beach as the sun rises behind him. Impossible because no one could survive such an explosion? No, that's just unlikely. The scene is impossible because the sun rises in the east, not the west. They should have named this one Tequila Sunset.
