When John sits down to check his lottery numbers, Max begins changing his television from the window of his own house, to stop him from seeing the live draw. The first time he changes channels, just before the change picture interference (of the type you'd see on a bad piece of video tape) are seen, and stay in exactly the same place on the screen as the channels change.

The only way this could happen, is if the channel hopping was recorded previously, and the channel change spanned the bad piece of video tape!
