John Wayne's Marine squad is heading towards the beaches at Iwo Jima. Some wise guy has written a message on the front of their landing craft that says something like "IT'S TOO LATE TO TURN BACK NOW". The writing shown in the wide angle shot looks different than the closeup. Some film crew member had to re-write the message for unknown reasons.
