Message in a Bottle - License Plate
When the reporters flies to the outerbanks of North carolina to find the author of the letters she rents a car when she finds his house they show a shot of the front of the rent a car. There plain as day is a North Carolina license plate, which is wrong because North Carolina has no front license plate. Later in the movie when she comes back to north carolina she has a different car. and on the front of it is a license plate with the same number.

The fact that there's a North Carolina plate isn't a big deal because when people rent a car to drive one way from one state to another, the dealers usually just leave the plates on. As far as the 'front' one being wrong, I have no idea. Sounds as if you're right about the same number being used twice.
