In the Stephen King book, there is a story called "Rita Hayworth & The Shawshank Redemption." During the part where Andy is recalling the night he sat outside of Quenton's (the man andy's wife was cheating on him with) one story house, he watched as first the living room light went off and then the upstairs light go off. How is this possible in a one story house?
