At the end of the movie when Dr Nevels kills himself, he uses a grenade, which blows the whole entire floor out and kills everything. He was using a regular grenade which would have only gone about 20 feet or so, but in the movie his basement is at least 100 feet squared. So how would it blow the whole floor up?
Maybe he had the lab rigged with expolosives like the outside of the house.

He was using a concussion grenade, usually packed with TNT and encased in cardboard, which does not fragment but sends out a shock wave. In this case this type of grenade is extemely effective in enclosed areas but unless as noted some kind of accelerant was the resulting explosion is overdramatized.
