On Page 216, in the second paragraph, I quote: "Since custom dictated that the Heir take the Ordeal if Midwinter came between his seventeenth and eighteenth birthday, it seemed likely that Jonathan would be needing a squire that year."

Midwinter occurs EVERY year; so unless he was born ON/during Midwinter the heir should ALWAYS be required to take the Ordeal.
