Every Spider-Man has a scene of The Daily Bugle where Betty Brant says "Your wife's on line one." Or something to an effect. JJJ simply blows off his wife, HOWEVER in the comic books the only reason he hates Spider-Man is because his WIFE WAS KILLED BY A MASKED MAN. If his wife is alive, why does he still hate Spider-Man?
It's not uncommon for movie makers to take liberties with a pre-existing story line. Such as in the Fantastic Four movie, where Dr. Doom is on the spaceship and got mutated with Reed, Ben, Sue and Johnny whereas this was not the case in the comic.
Why do so many people think it's a slip up when a movie doesn't EXACTLY follow the book/comic/play/original? It's not. An inconsistency of that sort is a creative choice by the movie maker, not a slip up.
