Sound of Music - Then Where Did Grettle Come From?
Before caring for the children, Maria was told that Mrs. Von Trapp, the Captain's late wife, died seven years before. Later, when the children are giving off their ages for Maria, Grettle says that she is five. I beleive the nun says several not seven
I vote for it too! :) But seriously, please, watch the movie again and you'll find the Mother Superior says "SEVERAL." I know because at first I thought she said SEVEN as well, but if you replay it a couple of times she definitely says SEVERAL.
I'm sorry, but Starfish, do you want to review your comment? If she was two when her mother died, and her mother died seven years earlier (I know it's several, I'm just saying this to make a point) then she would have been nine by now, wouldn't she?
Everbody, loosen up your ear plugs. Obviously, you didn't quite understand correctly what they were saying so here it is...
Actually, the reverend mother said "...his wife died SEVERAL years ago leaving him alone with the children..." And Frau Schmidt (the housekeeper) said "Ever since his poor wife died SEVERAL years ago..." They didn't said SEVEN YEARS AGO.
Listen, I'm sure it probably is several, but this is for all those math majors. OK, If Gretel is 5, and her mom died 7 years ago, that would mean she died two years before she was even born. Now what you're saying about her dying when she was two, that would mean her mom died 3 years ago, not 7.
i did this musical at my school and i had the script because i played Kurt. i see that everyone thinks it says several but the script did say seven years ago! me and my friends figured this one out already!
Oh my God, why don´t you people think first? I mean, look at this: Her mother died SEVEN years ago, Gretel is FIVE, that means, when Gretel was born, her mother was dead two years ago...get it???
That´s just an explanation for that people, otherwise, I agree, with the "several" thing
Perhaps the Captain shagged one of the maids and just added the resulting child to the brood hoping nobody would notice? Yes, I'm just being a smart ar*e!
