This slip-up is found in nearly every scene of this movie. Just look near the top of the movie screen, and you should see a microphone in nearly every scene of the movie. This may be done on purpose to make the movie funnier, or the projector operator at the theater made a mistake(which he really did, the picture was misplaced basically the whole movie). Enjoy!
The projectionist shouldn’t be blocking anything out, it's not their job. The blocking is to keep the portion of the screen not projected on hidden and make the edges sharper. I didn’t see the microphone when I watched the movie but believe it was a slipup and not intentional for two reasons. One, they would have mentioned it and made a few jokes about it. Secondly, they would have shot it once and gotten it over with.
I feel they didn’t have anyone checking for it because they were trying to cut costs as much as they could so they could afford the special effects.
