Throughout the movie, they show cars as being able to drive themselves. Yet when Spooner is describing his accident to Dr. Calvin, he talks about the semi-driver falling asleep at the wheel. However, this couldn't have happened, since the cars drive themselves.
Maybe some vehicles are self-driving, others not, depending on cost. Just like today some have automatic or stickshift, some have cruise control, some don't.
The movie also shows Spooner driving his own car. You can take it off auto pilot mode. So if he can take his car off auto pilot than I'm assuming that the truck driver can too.
