In the episode, Threshold, season 5. Teal'c undergoes a ritual to find his true self, in one of the flashbacks, he is told by apophis, to take some guy down to a planet and kill him. he takes him down using the rings, however, after he has reached the planet, the rings move upwards, where would they go?

They cannot go back to the ship, there is already a set of rings there, they are out in the open where they land.
