Whilst on a tour of a factory in Edinburgh, Scotland, Prince Philip pointed out a fuse box that looked quite old. He said "it looks like it was made by an Indian!"
I've researched it a bit more and it was in Edinburgh (Scotland), not quite northern England!

"Sparks fly after Prince's 'Indian fuse box' gaffe"
As a British person myself, I have to say, this man has always been daft. He is forever putting his foot in his mouth. I have no idea what the Queen ever saw in him.
Having just found a book containing word for word contents of ALL Prince Philips rude comments, the exact words said concerning the above blooper were:
"It looks as though it was put in by an Indian." Apparently, the fusebox looked pretty bad with cables sticking out of it. This comment just goes to show what a prejudice man Prince Philip is too.
I think he should be praised for not being so disgustingly poltically correct as many of today's public figures are, and instead saying things as laypeople would likely describe them in equally colourful language.
Prince Philip just does what most of the men from his era do and speaks what he thinks, he once took a mans car from the car park at Goodwood race track and put it back a few hours later with a 5 pound note on the drivers seat and a thankyou note for the lend of the mans car, some time in the 50's i think.
