In the begining of dragonball z we see Gohan's tail grow back many times after being cut or pulled off. Why doesn't Vegeta's tail grow back after only being cut off one time in the series?

I think that this is another difference between full blooded saiyans and the saiyan/human hybrid. It may be either up to genetics(since goku's tail grew back in dragonball),a trait that only saiyan children have, or a hybrid trait.
It could also be how the tail is cut off, with a weapon like Vegeta's was, ripped out as Gohan's was the first time in the series, or with energy as the final time Gohan's tail was cut off.
