also a quadrant is part of a 2-dimensional plane, and space is 3-dimensional.

Hmmmm, the 32nd Quadrent....how can't you have one? 8x4=???? 32 I believe! 1 of 4 right? So every 4 quadrents you have a......lol.....you have a something, something bigger, you know what I mean? Like a quadrent is 1/4 of some other unit of space....so the 32nd Quadrent would be the last 1/4 of the, lets call it a "Unit" =P. Each "Unit" is divided into 4 quadrents. The 32nd Quadrent would be the last one in the 8th "Unit" Make sense?

Just because quadrants are a fourth of something doesn't mean there can't be more than that. I can have 30 quarters and still call them quarters.

Star Trek often used "quadrant" and "sector" interchangeably. Only in later years did they realize the problem and begin using four designated quadrants of the galaxy, with many more smaller sectors within them.
This was actually an allusion to "Toy Story" in which Buzz Lightyear, voiced by Tim Allen, talked about being from the 32nd quadrant of the gamma sector. Also, Buzz Lightyear names himself Mrs. Nesbith when he loses it and has a tea party in "Toy Story."
