Mummy, The - No Eyes for You, Both for Me.
The first guy who gets speared by the mummy because he opened the box has his eyes taken away. The only way the Mummy got his eyes was because the guy dropped his glasses and is practically blind without his glasses.
Oops, no checking with any eye doctors here.
The reason people need glasses are because people's eyes aren't perfectly round and sometimes are oblong, etc. If the man needed glasses, so should the Mummy with his new eyes!
However, the Mummy seems to see perfectly fine with his disfigured eyes. Must be some of that special Mummy powers..

Well, if you have the magical/supernatural power to take the eyes in the first place, obviously you would have the power to make sure they work correctly.

If you watch properly, you will notice that Imhotep mistakes Evelyn for Ancksunamon, so he can't see that well and his eyesight would improve that after he kills Chambelain.

If you wear glasses, it doesn't naturally mean you can't see a thing without them!

if you had read the book you would have seen it said "Evelyn turned and faced the mummy with newly harvested and freshly inserted eyeballs. He squinted at her and said "Anck-su-namun?" for Burns's eyesight hadn't been the best afterall.

The weird Mummy-Guard guy later says "It appears he has already chosen his sacrifice". The Mummy probably knew Evelyn wasn't Anksu-whatsit, but thought she was close enough to serve as the sacrifice for the ritual. Also, glasses are needed because the cornea or lens cannot focus properly, not because people have oddly shaped eyes.

Like I said in another one of these slip-ups,is that The Mummy used Burns' eyes to regenerate his OWN eyes. It's not like he's plucking out Burns' eyes and then putting them in his own sockets. If he was using Burns' actual eyes, then wouldn't he have the traits and features of all the other people that he sucks dry later. He was using the people to regenerate his own self. It's still correct that he has bad eyesight after using Burns',though.

Glasses? What are you talking about? The Mummy hasn't got any optic nerves, nor the muscles needed to hold the eyes in place, nor eyelids or tear ducts, all of which are essential if you want to use eyes for seeing things with. What about the brain, if it comes to that? He hasn't got one of those, either, and eyes won't work without one. Besides, you can't transplant eyes; they are more or less a part of the brain and you'd have to sever the optic nerve to remove one. You can't stitch severed nerve ends together. Obviously there is something supernatural and "magic" about him needing eyes, and the fact that they previously belonged to a man who needed glasses is irrelevant. Besides, the Mummy hasn't got any ears. If he tried to wear glasses they,d fall off and he'd look silly.

O.K. Enough with the glasses and crappy eyesight. If your that bothered what about the fact that The Mummy can talk after taking only the tongue? Where is the voice box etc? I think that even if he couldn't see or talk properly it could be that he still needed to finish off the poor sod he started with so as to get all his energy of life force or whatever the hell it is that he needs to regenerate his own body. Man! that was a long winded sentence! G.G.7

well, something stranger about the mummies eyes, the ones he took were blue, but the mummies eyes were brown!

He was using those eyes to regenerate his OWN EYES! I've explained this enough times already. If he stuck the guys' eyes in his own head, wouldn't he look like everyone else he killed??

Maybe the mummy picked up some contact lenses at the local opticians?

First of all like RLF said he would look like everyone else. And 2nd how could he tell that he was taking eyes? If he knew that he was taking eyes why would he need them? And of course I don't think that contact lenses were evented yet in the 1930's. So leave the movie alone.

People with eye problems such as nearsightedness or farsightedness DO have abnormally shaped eyes, which contributes to the bad eyesight.

Are you in fact suggesting that if a persons eyes are removed, that a new pair freshly scooped out of an unsuspecting Joe (with perfect vision) would work ? Even without a surgeon there to do the operation .... This is really knit picking dude.

May I venture that the mummy could already see (or otherwise 'sense') everything around him, and had no need for eyes, save cosmetics...and that *GASP* the whole eye scene was just done for effect, and not in any way a slip up? I would say something lame and non-committal like "I may be wrong, this is just my point of view" but this isn't true...the scene took place as it did for the dramatic effect.

If your all that bothered about his eyes then answer this, before he attacked the guy for his eyes how did he see where to go and without a brain and most of his muscles decomposed how could he walk?

He doesn't mistake Evi for Anucksunamun (spelled right? I don't know!) He has chosen Evi as his sacrifice to bring A. back, and so she almost represent her. I don't know, others may not agree with me, but this is the way I took it.

someone told me that the directors thought of that, but that it would seem "funny" and "comical" if the mummy needed glasses... and also, i don't think he actually TOOK his eyes, because the eye colors were different as well. and, if the mummy was actually TAKING peoples body parts, he would have been white, and looked completely different. I think the mummy was just using their parts to bring back his own.

May I say that the Mummy must have had eyes in the first place to see that he was takin' the eyes from the other man. If he didn't he would be walking into walls and stuff until somebody gave him someone's eyes.

You're right that he could already see without eyes. Maybe he just needed eyes so he could look human, like he did before he was mummified.

I see that there is a lot of discussion about taking someone's eyes and how they would be used in the new host. Need I point out we are talking about a creature that has been dead for what...3000 years? If he managed to come back to life, I'm sure he could fix a case of farsightedness. We are talking about a supernatural occurrence as though it was a procedure performed by the world's greatest eye doctors. HE'S A MUMMY!!!

Prosum writes:
First off I believe I read somewhere that people need glasses because their eyes don't focus the image on their 'lens' correctly, infact they try to focus it right before or right after. I mean if it was because of shape if you were born with perfect sight then wouldn't it remain perfect throughout your life? I would think however that regardless of the guy's eyesight the Mummy would be able to see regularly through them, I mean he can become/control sand, his jaw can dislocate and extend downward futher than normal, and he has all sorts of other supernatural powers. Things like this in a movie aren't meant to be explained. They're part of the "Suspension of Disbelief" that is used in all movies where things are different from ordinary life. What you SHOULD be doing is enjoying the movie a little more, and analyzing it a little less.
