Right after Val & Earl warn the road workers about a murderer that is cutting people's head off, they blow him off. Then the worker with the jack hammer hits one and it drags him up the hill, which falls and proves to be strictly rocks, but later, they state clearly that the graboids cannot go through rocks!!
