Home Alone - "M" for McCallister
Okay, I think this is fairly obvious, but you may not agree!? This is near the end, when the two burglars are actually trying to get into the house. Joe Pesci is walking up the ice-covered front stairs and he actually makes it up (finally!). Just as he is about to place his hand on the door handle, we notice a big honkin' "M" on the knob, "M" for McCallister. Kevin has strategically place a RED HOT somethin' or other on the inside so that Pesci will cook his hand. The direction in which he places his hand on the knob indicates that the impression of the "M" would be sideways, however, when he removes his hand and we see it smokin' it is rightside up, and I am sorry, but that is a definite mistake, with a capital M! Happy movie-watching!

I think that you're all missing the point here. I believe what Jin is referring to, is the orientation of the letter "M" that is now permanently branded into Harry's (Joe Pesci) hand compliments of the electric Bar-b-que grill starter that Kevin hung on the door knob. The knob is glowing red when he grabs the knob and the orientation of the "M" on the knob is straight up and down just like it's seen here in this message. Harry grabs it with his hand sideways so the brand should be in the palm of is hand with the top of the "M" pointing towards the side of his hand, but when he looks at it after pulling it out of the snow the top of the "M" points toward his fingers... This even carries over to Home Alone 2 .... You see the same brand when he reaches down to grab Kevin, and it's still oriented the wrong way.

If you look closer he grabs the knob sideways (as do most people). He does this so that he can twist the knob. if you have ever tried grabbing a knob straight up you will know that you will never be able to twist it. Why don't you look for something real instead of trying to make something up?

if you mean by "straight up" gripping the doorknob with your hand running parallel to the door . . . what's so impossible about that???

uh, depending on the doorknob, it can be hard to pull open. but who cares? stop obsessing over it!

Dark Bunny, it is impossible for an adult (or anyone who is taller than the doorknob). You cannot place the palm of your hand flat on the doorknob with your finger pointing straight up without making your shoulder lower by kneeling. He does not, and in fact, you see his hand cupped like he is going to open the door. Ami, this is a slip-up archive. Discussing whether the slip-up is valid is not obsessing. It is the purpose of this site. In movies like this (kid's movies, humor/spoof movies), liberties such as this are taken. I don't think that this was actually a slip-up. But I feel cool--I saw this in the theater and have seen in twice since then, but I remember seeing the doorknob thing in the theater!

Okay, this is dumb. The point of the branding of the "M" on his hand, it to remember that he got an equal fight from a child. So he grabes it sideways, you have to. It's not a slip up. It's so he remembers this event. Find something better next time!! :)
