When Animal, the TV cameraman, grabs his camera out of his overturned van and chases after Godzilla, the monster had obviously turned right at the next corner - they showed its tail going that way at least twice. But when Animal gets to the end of the block he looks left, and there Godzilla is. Even if the monster had managed to quickly circle all the way around the block that was at the end of the original street, Animal would still have instinctly have looked right.
