Jurassic Park - Incredible Shrinking Dinosaur?
In the movie Jurassic Park, the bad guy drives his car down a hill and into a dinosaur area. There he runs into the Dilophosaurus. A Dilophosarous is roughly 18-20 ft in real life. However, in the movie he was much smaller than a Velocoraptor (9-15 ft.)

This is a fact that the development team knew. They made the dilophosarous smaller to cut down on a few costs (perhaps because they weren't very well known dinosaurs). The thing is, about a month after the movie was released, scientists found a dilophosarous that was only two inches higher than the one in the movie! Coincidence? ;)

You forgot that they dont spit either, and the neck frill was taken from the Australian frilled lizard.

Well, seeing that the dinosaurs where created with the help of frog-DNA, it might have caused a few mutations, although the neck-thing would be very strange indeed.

Spike writes:
I agree with Fox, it could have been a young dilophasoarus, not all dinosaurs are adults

It was obvious he did not know what kind of dinosaur it was, or otherwise he would have known he was screwed, but the comment "I thought you were one of your big brothers" could mean another, bigger species of dinosaur he knew to be dangerous, this is what I think he meant, (like referring to the raptors, or T-Rex), -Drakk )))

To nitpick.spoiler, I'm sure YOU haven't seen a real dinosaur, but scientists today can actually determine the height of a dinosaur by their bones, or haven't you seen those either?? sheeesh

Here are the FACTS about the Dilophosaurus scene, which I took from the "Making of Jurassic Park"-Book. It wasn't a mistake to change the Dilopho in size. They knew that it was in fact much bigger, but due to logistics and dramaturgy, they created this hybrid creature (with the extra neck thingy and the poison).

Just for the record the Velociraptor is actually the size of a turkey. The larger dynocarus (or something like that) being similar to the Velociraptor but without the good name was used in the film.

Nedry obviously knew what kind of dinosaur it was, because when he first saw he put up his hood to protect his face, which is the smart thing to do!

Listen. Velociraptor is smaller according to the bones found, but they made it bigger for effect. They changed lots of stuff for the movie from the book - characters, dino's etc. The Dilophosaurus, according to the book CAN spit, though nothing is mentioned about the frilly things - experts do reckon that it could have used spitting because of its small size. As for the egg - I can't see it - they are FORD EXPLORERS - though Nedry takes a Jeep out - gas-powered jeep as they keep saying in the movie if you listen. But the hub caps are YELLOW!!!!! show me where the chrome is, and I'll be happy to believe you.

BATman writes:
OK, Yes the spitter was smaller but they made all the dinosaurs more docile for safty reasons and as it states in the book and as for the Raptors the Utah Raptor is 6 feet tall. Which was discovered shortly after the book was made.

First of all, BATman, a Utahraptor is 20-25 ft. tall, roughly the size of a T-Rex. Second, a Veloceraptor is 3ft tall, not the size of a turkey, dcdex. And third, I think the most likly theory is that it wasn't full grown. The park's dinosaurs are not only being "hatched" all the time but also, because of their frog DNA, have the abiity to change gender.

Alabaska J, firstly Utah raptor was about half the size of a T Rex it was about 20ft long and T Rex was about 40ft long. The raptors in the film were based on Deinoychus which was about 6ft tall.

newer velocoraptors anre only found out to be 1ft tall. I live in MInnesota and this Dinnosaurs from China came and ther was a raptor and it was only 1 foot tall. Also, if you watch the 3rd movie you see there are diffrent knids of raptors so mabye this was a smaller breed.
