When they sit down on the hotel bed, Julia is smoking a cigarette. She gets upset in their conversation and flops back on the bed. Her hands go above her head and she no longer has a cigarette in her hand.

And Jules puts the cigarett down BEFORE she lays down on the bed. She puts it in an ash tray or something. You all need to rewind that scene.
