X-Files, The - Nerveless Man Can Feel?
In the episode of Humbug, Mulder and Scully go to a Freak Town in Florida. There they meet a man named Geoffery Swane. Geoffery's nerve endings are such that he cannot feel pain. But, if he cannot feel pain then how come when he sticks about 30 hooks in his chest and the sheriff pulls them he says "OUCH?" If he cannot feel pain then he should not have said"OUCH."

Geoffrey's possible insensitivity to pain is not a proven fact, it is only an assumption Scully makes. In the beginning it is clearly seen that Geoffrey feels pain when he almost collapses after ramming a rail nail in his chest. In fact, the "hammering nail up the nose" is a trick that one can perform by inserting a nail in the nasal cavity and/or nasal sinuses and pretending it is being hammered. Of course, some pain resistance is highly recommended.
