In the sceene where the kids are fishing. Thomas J catches a fish and then has his foot on it. When he takes his foot off, the hook can be seen sitting on the dock next to the fish. Then Theta picks up the fish, and takes the hook out. Its already out!
I don't know what movie you are watching, but there is no character Theta in the movie! Theta is a math term. Anna Chlumsky's character in the movie was Vada Sultenfuss.
This is not necessarily a slip-up. They seem to fish there often and it's very possible that they left the hook there the last time they went fishing or maybe they brought an extra hook in case something happened to the hook on the fishing line. Something to think about don't you think?
