After winning the Spring Fling, Cady breaks up the crown and throws it to the people. When she leaves the stage, she takes off the crown she just broke up.
You’re wrong; when I read this, I had to see for my self. Yes, she broke up the crown, but the part that you saw her take the crown off, was actually her putting the little piece left that she had on to her head.
