As Indy fights the big German guy under the Flying wing they get close to the landing gear and you can see a large bicycle chain thats turning the landing gear to move the airplane "airplanes have unpowered landing gear"

Qwigs writes:: In reality, you are probably correct. You are seeing the chain used to make the plane move for the scene. The airplane in the scene wasn't even a real historical plane. It is sort of a conglomeration of various German designs from the WW2 era.
