There are several scenes, ESPECIALLY close-ups of Bender throughout the film where you can see that he is already wearing the diamond that Claire gives him at the end as they leave the school. HELLO? Psychic, Bender?
He wasn't wearing a real diamond. I think that is the point. She took her real diamond earring out and gave it to him. Then he put that one in his ear. If you look closely, it's not the same diamond.
