When Super Bike breaks his mirror, he drops it and it shatters in to tons of little pieces.

Later the mirror is on the table in the garage with nothing but a crack.

The artists felt it to have more of an effect to have the mirror shatter when dropped. I mean come on, this is a children's show. When asked "whats that?" timmy says "super bikes stupid mirror." I mean, come on! When Super Bike dropped the mirror, everything shattered, including the metal rim around the mirror! (I don't think is even possible because he doesn't throw it down, he gently drops only a few inches.)
