In the scene where the tornado destroy's the drive in, Bill Paxton's wife is lying in her room watching the tv. The tv is an older model with twist knobs to switch the channels. She turns off the tv with a remote control. You cannot turn off that old of a model tv with a remote control.
This is not a "whoops." In the early- to mid-60s, there definitely were TV sets with both knobs to control them and remotes (clunky as the remotes were).
